Designer’s AW fashion collection : shot 3 ways in 1 day!
Studio & Location Fashion Photography: Margaret Yescombe
Fashion Designer: Rachel Antonio, AW11 collection look book.
Model: Anna Tatton (freelance)
Hair/Make-up: Dorota N
Having been sent sketches/moodboard to get a feel for her collection, I decided to set-up for a black background with strong lighting. I also had another idea in mind…. there has been a huge blank white canvass sitting in the Studio waiting for the right project, I bought a can of black spray paint ready.
On the day of the photo shoot, while the Anna was in hair and make-up, I asked if Rachel would like to have a go at spray painting the canvas as a background to shoot against. As Rachel is used to detailed silk printing, Rachel was a little worried at, first as spray paint isn’t her usual art medium, after a bit of reassurance (that we already had a studio photo shoot set-up, so if the canvas didn’t look good we didn’t have to use it); Rachel went to work creating large black crows on the canvas to echo the print patterns in her designs.
We decided to shoot each outfit in the Studio, then outside against the canvas (just using the sun and a silver reflector for lighting).
We didn’t stop there… as I noticed the wall at the end of the Studio (where the canvas was propped) against had a lovely texture with the peeling paint & I knew it was due to be re-painted soon. So we shot the collection against there too.
So we did all 10 outfits shot in three different ways, all on the same day!
